Introducing: Paige Jansen

6C74C6AC-BE76-4DAF-BFD6-9080EC5F1913Hey there! My name is Paige, I’m 24, and in addition to being a doula, I am a mother of an incredibly independent two year-old, an essential oil enthusiast, a people lover, a small business owner, and a fur mom! I love having deep, meaningful conversations with people to get different perspectives on life. I also love learning new, healthy and holistic ways to live. As an open-minded, free-spirited person, the unique lifestyle of a doula is a natural extension of my strengths and personality.

When I was pregnant I knew I wanted an unmedicated birth, but I was intimidated by all the information out there. My OB was on board, but didn’t really give me all the information I was desiring. So, I decided to take to the internet to find a birthing class that encompassed my holistic approach to life, my appreciation of knowledge, and potentially finding a doula or midwife. When I stumbled across Purple Lotus Doulas, I immediately knew we’d be a match and quit looking anywhere else. I messaged my then-husband and said, “I know these classes seem expensive and frivolous to you, but I NEED them, I have to take them.” So we did, and BOY did we learn a lot! BirthWorks Classes set me up to be the mother I am today and for the career I am now pursuing. They allowed me to meet my wonderful doula and birth educator, Sarah Baker, to have the birth I dreamed of, and set me up for 2 years of successful breastfeeding.

I knew from the moment I started BirthWorks Classes with Sarah that I had a bigger purpose in life. The year after I gave birth to my son, I saw Sarah posting about Purple Lotus Doulas’ professional doula trainings on Facebook and thought to myself, “One day I’m going to do that.” Because of my previous work at the YMCA, I knew I loved working with the public and helping those in my community. After having my son, I began to find the work far less rewarding, compared to the gratification that I felt as a first-time parent. As I taught my son to be confident and independent, I realized that it was a passion of mine to enable that same confidence in others. In parenting my son, I was frequently reminded of the confidence I gained through my experience in BirthWorks — confidence that lead me to have an empowering pregnancy and birth. The same confidence and empowerment that was instilled in me as a result of taking BirthWorks and having Sarah as my doula directly impacted the transition into my parenting journey. Through all these realizations, I found my calling to professional doula work.

My goals as a doula are to help people find their inner power and let it shine, to impart the same wisdom and confidence to my clients that had been gifted to me, to give people the space they need to accomplish their birth goals, and to validate the complexity of unique emotions that are commonly experienced during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I am so excited to fulfill my calling and have the opportunity to have an impact on one of the most important times in a person’s life, and I am grateful that I get to do so with the mentorship and guidance of my biggest inspiration, Sarah Baker.

As your doula, I am passionate about open and honest communication, care and support, education, and most importantly, ensuring that you feel heard and valued every step along your journey. Birth is messy and hard and raw and intense and overwhelming, but it’s also beautiful and empowering and incredibly life-changing. It is truly a privilege to be involved in every part of that. I look forward to hearing from you!
